Controlling fire ants in landscaped areas requires an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach. Workers forage around their mound to find food traveling in underground tunnels that radiate from the mound and then to the surface. If you disturb the mound ants swarm out and sting the intruder. Fire ants spend a great deal of time searching for food. Foraging for food can bring fire ants inside buildings. At Landscape and Turf Solutions one way we reduce ant foraging by baiting the mound and reducing nearby available food sources. Using this method, we kill not only the workers but also the queen. As the queen is the only ant in the colony that can lay eggs, when the queen is killed the whole colony dies.

Micro Tree Injections

Landscape and Turf Solutions treats larger trees for insects and diseases with micro tree injections. The chemicals used are not organic, however the manner in which they are applied is considered a closed system that does not enter the atmosphere as it is injected directly into the tree.

The woolly adelgid on hemlock trees (pictured above) is a prime example of an insect that is treated with micro-injections. The white cotton like puffs on the branches near the needles are a sign that you have woolly adelgids on your tree. Each one of those little white puffs can have up to 5000 eggs in it. Timing of the micro injections is critical for them to be effective. Treated just before they start crawling, so the chemical has time to move through the whole tree provides the best results.
